There is a reason why people (including myself) are willing to wait 30 minutes to an hour to be seated. I feel like I’m there every other weekend.

There is a reason why he won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurateur last year and has been nominated for other categories for over a decade.

The space is cozy and the tables are long enough for two smaller parties or one big group so you can become friends with your neighbors.

One of their seasonal drinks is a Spiced Cinnamon Pear-Cranberry Fizz. The only thing I thought about while drinking this was how good this would taste in the summer. It wasn’t overly sweet and actually had a slight, yet noticeable spice.

My personal favorite is the Sweet Fennel Sausage with Roasted Pepper and Provolone. It’s got a good kick to it. I’m a fan.

Apart from the rustic feel and cozy atmosphere, the burgers are full of flavor, but don’t try to hard. Even our server was witty and engaging without fishing for tips.

Poutine is already pretty amazing, but imagine my excitement when I saw Short Rib Poutine. It was awesome, but definitely something to slip amongst more than just 2 people.

The two burgers that we split were the Jackson and the Pike.

The Jackson - house blend, charred onions, lettuce, fried green tomato, Gouda, smokey bacon mayo, BBQ sauce

The Pike - house blend, lettuce, tomato, habanero jam, pepperjack cheese, roasted corn salsa, aioli

They had me at habanero jam.

Smitten Kitchen

I love food. This is not a mere statement, but a fact. For how much I love food, I have to admit, that I can’t cook… very well. However, Smitten Kitchen is like having a hipster foodie friend tell you how to make tasty things.

The creator of Smitten Kitchen is Deb and her recipes are not really instructions, but a narrative on the food you are going to make. It’s delightful.

If you don’t believe me… LOOK AT THESE… mmmm.

Talk about a major upgrade!

I’ve been pretty discouraged from taking pictures and blogging because of the grainy, undistinguishable pictures that my previous phone was so great at taking, but now my phone is great and I’m going to be that Asian taking pictures of her food.

Long hair, don’t care.

BEST/WORST life decision ever.

This is a prosciutto wrapped mozzarella and basil pieces with a drizzle of balsamic reduction and olive oil. Along with a batch of guacamole (5 avocados), two bags of tortilla chips, half of a large tub of salsa, two small bags of M&Ms, 4 pieces of tri tip, a pineapple with muddled mint drizzled on top, corn, Macrina’s olive bread and some drum sticks, you would think that we’d be full the next morning… NOPE.

The next morning: Bacon-egg cups with asiago and parsley sprinkled on top. We made drinks with champagne, mango lemonade (or raspberry lemonade), with a dash of chambord :)

We did work this weekend.

daamnminja:

Green Leaf is an amazing Vietnamese Restaurant in the ID. I mean, if it’s good enough for Tom Douglas, it’s good enough for me. It’s delicious. I’ve been there twice and the first time I had the combo vermicelli. The second time, my group went a little bit overboard, but what better way to cure a hang over than some duck congee? Am I right? We had spring rolls, egg rolls, wontons, and a vietnamese pancake/crepe thing that you wrap in some lettuce. I was stuffed. I highly recommend this place! I heard the pho is also delicious! Have fun!

Oddfellows Cafe and Bar - Capitol Hill

RN74 has been on my list of places to try since it opened awhile ago and with Seattle Restaurant Week going on, I thought I’d take the opportunity to get my food on. When we got there, the restaurant had a really busy yet cool loungy feeling to it. We got a couple of stiff drinks at the bar while we waited for our table and I got a chance to look at the happy hour menu:

Although I wanted to order everything on the menu, I restrained myself and waited till we sat down with our Seattle Restaurant Week menus. Our waitress was so nice and so extremely knowledgeable about the food — my friend is doing an elimination diet, starting off with gluten and going vegan.

We both started off with the Spring Leek & Potato Soup then for the second course I had the Cassoulet de Toulouse (duck confit, pork belly, saucisson d’ail) then for dessert I enjoyed the lovely Espresso Semifreddo (chocolate cremeux, nutmeg chantilly).

Everything was tasty and just the right amount of food. I left feeling completely satisfied and didn’t get winded walking back up to Capitol Hill. Check out this new place!

P.S. They also have on their menu, HUDSON VALLEY FOIE GRAS SLIDERS with caramelized onion jus, sylvetta, and apple mustard…. round 2 anyone?

Local 360 has become one of my favorite places to dine in Seattle. I recently took a food politics class and we discussed local food to a great extent so I was extremely excited to try this place. Their mission statement:

We believe in real food, grown and harvested by the good folks in our community who take care of their land for future generations. We believe in whole, natural flavors. We believe in sustainability, not as an abstract concept, but as a conscious daily choice. We believe in hands; the hands of our local farmers, products made by hand, and the goodwill fostered by such hand-in-hand relationships.

The first time I went there was for happy hour and it was from 3-6pm and then 10 - close every night. My friend and I shared a dozen oysters, pulled pork sandwich with slaw, and the rabbit country style paté. We also go to try a PB&J Bon Bon and they were so rich and creamy that I would need 2 glasses of milk to wash them down. My mouth salivates just thinking about how delicious the food was.

The second time was for Dine Around Seattle. Our first course was the beet salad (with feta, walnets, orange & Banyuls Vinaigrette) and the crispy pig ears (with bleu cheese, hazelnuts, parsley, and ranch). The beets were on a bed of arugula and it felt like it had a great, simple flavor palate. The crispy pig ears tasted like pretentious pork rinds and I loved every bite. The second course we had the Butcher’s grind house burger (with added cheese and bacon… duh) and the rabbit and mushroom pasta. The burger was named Seattle Magazine’s Best All-American Burger and rightly so. The pasta was delicious and the sauce was nice because they used the rabbit to make a roue for the pasta. Finally, for dessert we had the bread pudding and the dulce de leche ice cream. The bread pudding had a thicker and more pound-cake like texture, but paired with the ice cream, we could careless.

I highly recommend this place. Please check it out if you haven’t already—they really are great.
